Let me start by saying I am not a Trekkie. Nothing wrong with being a Trekkie. For those who don’t know, a Trekkie is a passionate fan of Star Trek. If you are into Kpop think Stays for SKZ and Army for BTS. I have seen everything Star Trek, OG Trek, OG Trek movies and everything that came after . Prodigy, Lower Decks, Discovery etc. I am currently watching season 5 of Discovery. I am so disappointed. I know a lot of fans hate the show but I enjoy it. For me ,the best season was 2. 1 they were trying to figure it out. 2 has Spock and Captain Pike. And… a story that started out strong with high stakes. And… the end sets it up for season 3. I guess it resonated with me because I have siblings. Season 3 started out strong then the end = anticlimactic. Season 4 same thing and season 5 same thing it looks like. Season 5 honestly I sped watched. It’s something I do in C and K dramas as well when the show drags a bit. I fast forward until I get to the characters or parts that I like. As a fan of the show, I am like uh and as a creator of the written word I am like uh. Cause I see what they are trying to do from a creative standpoint but the execution. I’m not this pretentious creator who’s like I can totally do better. I see the potential and it drives me nuts. It could have been great. In times like these, I actually get inspired to create because my brain is like what if the writers did this ,this or this. Then it sparks an idea. Sometimes, it’s not a show. It’s music. Some of my best work I actually wrote while listening to music. It makes sense because my style is lyrical. I listen to instrumental when I want to write something flowy and light. I particularly love the stuff from movies. Two Steps From Hell, Thomas Bergersen, John Dreamer, Steve Jablonsky. Man if only I paid attention in music theory. I won’t be greedy. I will stick to the art I am good at. So this is me a non Trekkie, non Kpop fan. I like to refer to myself as a consumer of culture and art. I think it’s shaped my work. I think my writing would morph into something amazing if I could travel but you know I am too busy surviving/existing. I can’t afford living/enjoying life at the moment.
PS I am gonna start the short story bit of The Kingdom of Ash tomorrow 😁
PS PS I once wrote a novel. I repeat a novel while listening to ACDC…. Thunderstruck and Back in Black specifically on repeat.
